The Gap x Harlem Fashion Row Collection is coming to select stores and launching on Gap.com today, February 14th at Noon! Continuing the celebration of Black History Month with a collaboration of with black designers reimagining the classic t-shirt and hoodie with this 16 piece limited edition collection.
Traditionally, GAP is known for basics, plain t-shirts in a variety of colors or a hoodie with the GAP embroidery on the front. The fun of this collection is the assignment to reimagine these classic pieces in a way that is unique and reflective of their brands. BruceGlen, designed by twin brothers Bruce and Glen Proctor designed their items with vibrant colors and prints, similar to the collections which is signature to the BruceGlen look. On the other hand, Kaphill founded by Krystal Phillips, added a feminine touch to her hoodies, creating flowers with the hoodie material and a feminine silhouette that hasn’t been traditionally done with the GAP’s classic hoodie. Other designers set to be included in this collaboration are: A.Potts, N’Gai, Richfresh.
“Our partnership with Gap has always been about more than fashion, says HFR founder, Brandice Daniel, “it’s about creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and amplifying the voices of these incredibly talented designers. This collaboration is especially meaningful as it represents the evolution of our shared vision to reimagine possibilities for designers of color. Together, we’re not only celebrating creativity but also fostering a legacy of inclusivity and empowerment that will inspire generations to come.”
It seems that the excitement and attention that the GAP had in the 90s has made a full comeback with partnerships such as this. President & CEO of Gap Mark Breitbard believes that, “this partnership is a natural fit, as it’s rooted in our shared mission to empower creators and provide them with a platform to share their talent with the world…each designer’s creativity takes center stage — bringing a fresh, authentic perspective to create a truly original collection.
Daniel has been committed to creating new and innovative opportunities for designers of colors by partnering up with established companies including Nike, Nordstrom’s and the GAP. The GAP solidified their partnership with HFR in 2019 and they have been supporting through events, brand collaborations along with HBCU investments through HFR Icon360 programs which supports fashion programs at HBCUS.
